A tentative contract deal was reached by Frontier Airlines and its flight attendants recently through mediation.

The process was overseen by the National Mediation Board and as a result, a demonstration planned that would have included attendants from 20 different airlines was canceled. The group was in town for a union convention and planned to join the Frontier attendants in solidarity.

Attendants from Frontier and other airlines had encouraged the AFA to schedule it annual convention in Denver so they would be in the area to show support for Frontier’s attendants. There were demonstrations held at Frontier bases, as well as a social media campaign to show their support for their union brothers and sisters.

The new tentative deal will replace an agreement from 2011 that was reached as a result of the former owner of the airline declaring bankruptcy.

According to the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, the tentative agreement includes pay increases which were noted to be “significant,” as well as schedule flexibility and “quality of life improvements” for the attendants. Other benefits were also included but not explained in detail. The group declined to give specific details until after the deal is reviewed.

The union president said she is happy with the deal and that it would put Frontier “on par” with other major carriers. It would also allow attendants to quit their second jobs – something many attendants had to have based on the details of the old contract.

The new agreement is a long-time coming. Negotiations began in the fall of 2015.
